Project Raise Awareness on the Labelling and Discrimination between Arts and Science Courses

What is this project?
This project is organized to raise the awareness on the discrimination and labelling between arts and science students in hopes that we will try to minimize this issue from happening later on as it is affecting the unity of the society and the future.

Why the labelling and discrimination between arts and science courses issue is a problem?

The labelling of arts and science courses are negatively affecting the unity of society as the labels could lead to the discrimination between the two courses. Hence, as one might claim the superiority or the inferiority of a course towards the other, this creates a division in the society
When we label an individual, it is as if we put them into a box where the society will decide on what is acceptable and not acceptable to be done by the individual by the course that they are in. This will create limits for one to truly discover their true potential
For long term effect, it’s very crucial because if you chose to stick with the wrong decision, you may end up doing your work only for the sake of money, not only it will effect yourself but it will also effect the society and surroundings that are related to you. You will feel unhappy and you will not be productive, this will lead to a bad output in doing the work.

Objectives:
To minimize the labelling and discrimination between Arts and Science courses
To help unite the society
To create equality between two courses

Methods on Raising Awareness:
Twitter
Instagram
Flyers

The Advantages & Disadvantages of the Methods:
1. Twitter
Advantages
Can spread awareness to large audiences as twitter users vary from various parts of the world
Twitter users gradually increases; large potential audience to spread awareness to. According to statistic, as of the third quarter of 2016, the microblogging service averaged at 317 million monthly active users.
Twitter is one of the fastest mediums to transport messages
Twitter transport messages (tweets) with limit of 140 characters per tweet. Through short and efficient information shared per tweet could capture the attention of audience easily as humans naturally have short attention span. Especially nowadays since we all use technology to receive information, we could easily be distracted by other media outlets
The tweets are accessible at all times
The retweets(sharing of tweets) that we get from the audience is also a tool to spread the awareness as when they retweet, the followers of the users could also get access to the tweet itself
Twitter also provides poll making service where we use it to obtain information on whether or not it is an issue in the society
We could also gain immediate feedback from the audience
Disadvantages
The possibility of the users to just simply scroll through the informative tweets without actually looking at the content

2. Instagram
Advantages
Instagram allows sharing of information through images or visuals. As it is a fact that visual content reaches an individual’s brain in a faster and more understandable way. Or, more accurately, a person’s brain is hardwired to recognize and make sense of visual information more efficiently, which is useful considering that 90 percent of all information that comes to the brain is visual.
Twitter users gradually increases; large potential audience to spread awareness to. According to statistic, the total number of active Instagram users is 555 million as of September 2016.

Disadvantages
The possibility of the users to just simply scroll through the informative tweets without actually looking at the content

3. Flyers
Advantages
With the words made simple, with large fonts and the colorful layout of the flyers, this will attract people and make them interested in reading the message that we are trying to spread.
Flyers can be distributed in a short amount of time to a large group of people. So this makes the mission of spreading awareness quick and easy.
While giving out flyers, we the speakers of society can come in contact with the people that we are trying to spread awareness to and can explain more in depth to the people we are trying to spread awareness to about the issue itself.
The flyers only include short and accurate also important information to help spread the message. So it makes it easier for people to read.
As we distribute the flyers, we briefly talk about our mission of spreading awareness on this issue
Disadvantages
Flyers are discarded after they are read.
Why our methods are the best compared to others?
We chose Twitter and Instagram as they are the best and most relevant social media platforms at the time in spreading information and receiving information compared to other social media platforms like Tumblr or YouTube.
Even after the flyers are read and they are dismissed, the information read is already processed in the brain.
The flyers contain few words but contain sufficient and important message, therefore if one were to not really read in detail the content of the flyers and made a brief skim of the flyer, therefore information could still be attained as skimming process is in the first stage of critical reading strategies according to Salisbury University.
The skimming process cannot easily be done for brochures as brochures contain a handful of information.
Advertisements could easily be overlooked as they are situated at one place or even if they are movable, the message cannot be completely captured by our eyes.

We did not choose Facebook as we are given this project assignment within the short semester and Facebook is proven to be a good method at distributing information but it moves too slow and is more suited to spread timeless news and updates.

Methods in finding results:
Poll and survey
Advantages
1. Can be developed in less time (compared to other data-collection methods)
2. Cost-effective, but cost depends on survey mode
3. Can be administered remotely via online, mobile devices, mail, email, kiosk, or telephone.
4. Capable of collecting data from a large number of respondents
Disadvantages
1. Respondents may not feel encouraged to provide accurate, honest answers
2. Respondents may not be fully aware of their reasons for any given answer because of lack of memory on the subject, or even boredom.
3. Surveys with closed-ended questions may have a lower validity rate than other question types.
4. Data errors due to question non-responses may exist. The number of respondents who choose to respond to a survey question may be different from those who chose not to respond, thus creating bias.
Interview
Advantages
1. Accurate screening. The individual being interviewed is unable to provide false information during screening questions such as gender, age, or race.
2. Capture verbal and non-verbal ques. this method also affords the capture of non-verbal ques including body language, which can indicate a level of discomfort with the questions.
3. Keep focus. The interviewer is the one that has control over the interview and can keep the interviewee focused and on track to completion.
4. Face-to-face interviews can no doubt capture an interviewee’s emotions and behaviors.
Disadvantages
1. Costs.
2. The quality of data you receive will often depend on the ability of the interviewer. Some people have the natural ability to conduct an interview and gather data well. Some interviewers may also have their own biases that could impact the way they input responses.
